How the Mendy Price Guide is built

Short version: every number is either a cited public figure with a capture date, or it does not appear. Here is the whole system.

Where the ranges come from

Guide ranges are curated from published Australian cost guides, compared across sources and stored with the date we captured them. Each cost page names its sources and shows both its capture date and the date the whole guide was last reviewed. Current sources across the guide: The Quote Yard tradie rates (Mar 2026); Tradify state-by-state hourly rates; Airtasker AU cost guides (2026); ServiceSeeking 2026 cost guides; ServiceTasker cost guides; ServiceSeeking 2026 price guides; Quote Yard emergency electrician NSW 2026; Online Flooring Store laminate cost guide; GoTreeQuotes hedge trimming guide; What's the Damage cost guides (2026); Airtasker cost guides (2024, handyman tier); The Quote Yard, wall patching NSW 2026.

Where a job varies too much for a range to be honest, the page says "priced by quote" and we publish nothing. There are 6 of those today, listed on their trade pages.

Why we never say "typical price" for these ranges

A curated range tells you what public guides say, not what tradies near you are actually quoting. We keep those two ideas strictly apart. On these pages, curated figures are always introduced as what public cost guides put a job at.

The gate our own data must pass

Mendy collects real quotes through the app. A price band built from our own data only ever appears when at least 5 real prices from at least 3 different businesses, within 15 km of the postcode and the last 180 days, back it. We then show the middle of that data (the 25th to 75th percentile), never the extremes. Below the gate, we show nothing at all. When our own data does appear anywhere, it is labelled as Mendy quote data, and it is never blended into a curated range.

Licence checks

Where a state publishes a licence register, Mendy verifies businesses against it: NSW Fair Trading, QLD (QBCC), VIC (Building Practitioners Register), ACT, WA (Building and Energy), and NT (Building Practitioners Board). A licence check is a fact about the day it ran: licences lapse, so checks re-run on a weekly cycle and anything unverified is labelled honestly in the app rather than assumed.

The Fix Library

Fix guides are AI-drafted, then human safety-reviewed before publishing, and every guide carries a clear stop point for when the job belongs with a licensed tradie.99 guides have passed review; 30 are published so far and more go live in weekly waves.
